Ingredients & Substitutions: Crafting a Perfect Harmony

  1. Meat: Opt for ground beef with a slightly higher fat content (like 80/20) for added flavor and moisture. Alternatively, embrace the versatility of ground turkey or ground chicken.
  2. Onion: Yellow onions provide a savory kick to the ground beef filling. If onions aren’t your preference, feel free to omit them.
  3. Seasonings: Elevate the flavor profile with a blend of seasoned salt, hamburger seasoning, salt, and pepper for the perfectly seasoned ground beef.
  4. Tortillas: Choose soft and pliable flour tortillas, ideal for folding in the filling. The result: a slightly crispy exterior and a tender interior after cooking.
  5. Cheese: Embrace a generous amount of sharp cheddar cheese for a bold flavor. Experiment with other cheese varieties like Monterey Jack or pepper jack to suit your taste.
  6. Fixings: Personalize your quesadillas with favorite cheeseburger fixings. Our rendition includes lots of pickles, tomatoes, and raw onions.
  7. Fry Sauce: While delightful on its own, our homemade fry sauce, drizzled over the quesadillas, enhances the overall flavor experience.

Preparation Tips: Convenience Meets Flavor

Can these Quesadillas be Made Ahead? Absolutely! Prepare the ground beef in advance, storing it in an airtight container in the refrigerator for 3-4 days. The pickles, tomatoes, and onions can be diced and stored separately for the same duration. Don’t forget the fry sauce, which can be made and refrigerated for 3-5 days.

Hamburger Mixture

  • 2 pounds (907 g) ground beef
  • ½ cup (80 g) yellow onion, minced
  • 1 teaspoon seasoned salt
  • 1 tablespoon hamburger seasoning
  • 1 teaspoon kosher salt
  • 1 teaspoon black pepper

  • 8 flour tortillas, soft taco size (8 inches each) / (20 cm each)
  • 4 cups (452 g) sharp cheddar cheese, shredded, divided
  • 1 cup (143 g) minced pickles, divided
  • 1 cup (180 g) diced tomato, divided
  • ½ cup (80 g) yellow onion, minced, divided
  • Vegetable oil, for pan-frying

  1. In a large skillet over medium heat, combine ground beef, onion, seasoned salt, hamburger seasoning, salt, and pepper.
  2. Cook until beef is no longer pink, about 8-10 minutes. Drain grease and transfer beef to a bowl. Cover to keep warm.
  3. Wipe out the skillet and add about a tablespoon of oil. When hot, place a tortilla in the skillet. Top with ½ cup of shredded cheese, covering it completely.
  4. On half of the tortilla, add ½ cup hamburger mixture, 2 tablespoons pickles, 2 tablespoons tomatoes, and 1 tablespoon raw onion.
  5. Cook for 1-2 minutes, or until golden brown. Fold the tortilla in half using a spatula. Remove from the skillet and repeat with remaining quesadillas, adding oil as needed.
  6. Slice each quesadilla into three pieces and garnish with a drizzle of fry sauce. Serve immediately and savor the flavorful fusion!
