How to Prepare Garlic Parmesan Rice

This flavorful side dish not only enhances plain white rice but also simplifies cooking with its one-pot preparation! Ensure your pot has a lid to keep it covered while the rice cooks.

Begin by melting 3 tablespoons of butter over medium-low heat. Once melted, add diced onion and cook until tender. Then, add minced garlic and cook briefly, being careful not to burn it. Incorporate the uncooked rice into the butter mixture, ensuring it’s evenly coated.

Add chicken stock, salt, and pepper, bringing the mixture to a boil. Once boiling, reduce the heat to low, cover with the lid, and simmer for 15-20 minutes until the liquid is absorbed, and the rice is tender.

Remove the pot from the heat, fluff the rice with a fork, and stir in the remaining 3 tablespoons of butter and grated parmesan cheese. Serve the rice garnished with fresh parsley and additional parmesan cheese if desired!

Determining When Rice is Cooked

While it may seem straightforward, the best way to gauge rice doneness is to taste it. Test the rice after 15-18 minutes of cooking; if needed, cook for a few more minutes. After removing from heat, allow the rice to rest before fluffing it up. Cooked white rice should be soft and fluffy.
