Can I Use a Different Sized Pan?

Absolutely! This versatile recipe has been tested with both a 9-inch springform pan and a 9×13-inch baking dish. While the springform pan offers an impressive presentation, the 9×13-inch baking dish results in a more proportioned dish with a less dense texture. Both options deliver a delicious Spaghetti Pizza Casserole experience.

Ingredients

  • 8 ounces (225 g) spaghetti noodles, broken into 2-inch pieces, cooked al dente, cooled
  • 2 1/2 cups (282.5 g) mozzarella cheese, shredded, divided
  • 1/4 cup (60 ml) whole milk
  • 1 large egg, beaten
  • 1/2 teaspoon Italian seasoning
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon kosher salt

Sauce

  • 1 jar (680 g) marinara sauce
  • 1 pound (450 g) ground beef
  • 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning
  • 1/2 teaspoon kosher salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 3 ounces (85 g) sliced pepperoni, about 35 slices, or enough to cover the top

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 425°F (220°C) and spray a 9×13-inch (23×33 cm) baking dish with nonstick cooking spray.
  2. In a large bowl, combine the cooked, cooled noodles, 1/2 cup of mozzarella cheese, milk, beaten egg, Italian seasoning, garlic salt, and salt.
  3. Spread the mixture into the prepared baking dish in an even layer. Bake for 15 minutes.
  4. While the pasta is baking, prepare the sauce. Brown the ground beef in a medium skillet over medium heat until no pink remains (about 8 minutes). Drain excess grease.
  5. Add marinara sauce, Italian seasoning, salt, and pepper to the ground beef. Stir to combine.
  6. After 15 minutes, remove the pasta from the oven. Reduce the oven temperature to 350°F (175°C).
  7. Spread the sauce mixture over the noodle layer. Top with the remaining cheese and a layer of pepperoni slices.
  8. Return to the oven and bake for 25-30 more minutes, or until the cheese is hot and bubbly. Allow it to rest for a few minutes before serving. Enjoy!
