A New Twist on Corn Dogs

Inspired by my recipes for Chili Cheese Fries and Chili Cheese Nachos, it made perfect sense to create a chili cheese version of the corn dog. I stumbled upon the idea in a Reddit food thread and couldn’t resist trying it out. These corn dogs are an easy-to-make option for lunch, dinner, or even as an appetizer. Simply start with store-bought corn dogs and add a homemade chili mix with cheese, onions, and jalapenos for a delicious twist.

Corn Dog Ingredients

  • Corn Dogs: Purchase some corn dogs from the store and cook them according to the package instructions. Bigger corn dogs work best for this recipe!
  • Chili: For the best flavor, make homemade chili. I have several chili recipes, including Texas Chili, Meatless Chili, and Spicy Steak Chili.
  • Cheese: Sharp cheddar cheese is my favorite, but Monterey Jack cheese or a mix of your preferred cheeses would also work well.
  • Onion: Onions add a crucial layer of flavor. I used yellow onion, but a white onion can be substituted for a sharper taste.

What to Serve with Chili Cheese Corn Dogs

These chili cheese corn dogs can be served as a main course or as an appetizer, depending on their size. For a main course, consider serving them with sides like macaroni and cheese, potato chips, roasted sweet potatoes, potato salad, or cornbread.

Chili Cheese Corn Dog Extravaganza

Ingredients

  • 8 corn dogs, cooked per package instructions
  • 2 cups cooked chili, divided
  • 1 cup (110 g) sharp cheddar cheese, finely shredded, divided
  • 1 small onion, finely diced, divided
  • 1 medium jalapeno pepper, seeded and finely diced, divided

Instructions

  1. Carefully remove the wooden stick from the cooked corn dogs.
  2. Slice each corn dog vertically down the center, about halfway through, being careful not to cut all the way through the bottom.
  3. Into the cut, add chili, cheese, onion, and jalapeno.
  4. Serve warm!
