Preparing the Ravioli for Frying

Whether you’re using an air fryer or frying in oil, the breading process for the ravioli remains the same. Start by lining a baking sheet with parchment paper to place the coated ravioli before frying. Prepare three deep plates or bowls for the breading steps.

  • First plate: Add the flour.
  • Second plate: Whisk together the eggs and milk.
  • Third plate: Combine the breadcrumbs, parmesan cheese, garlic powder, salt, and pepper.

For each frozen ravioli, coat it first in the flour, then in the egg and milk mixture, and finally in the breadcrumb mixture. Place the coated ravioli on the lined baking sheet until all are breaded. Now you’re ready to fry them using your preferred method.

How to Test Oil Temperature for Frying

To ensure your oil is at the correct temperature for frying:

  • Wooden Spoon Method: Place the handle of a wooden spoon into the hot oil. If the oil bubbles steadily, it’s ready. If it bubbles vigorously, it’s too hot. Few or no bubbles mean it’s not hot enough.
  • Bread Test: Drop a 1-inch (2.5-centimeter) square of bread into the oil. If it browns in 60 seconds, the oil is ready.
  • Popcorn Kernel Test: Place a kernel of popcorn into the oil as it heats. When it pops, the oil is at the right temperature.

Air Fryer Ravioli

Using an air fryer is a healthier option and avoids the mess of traditional frying.

  1. Spray the breaded ravioli on both sides with cooking spray.
  2. Place the ravioli in a single layer in the air fryer basket.
  3. Fry at 350°F (175°C) for 10 minutes, flipping halfway through.
  4. Remove from the air fryer and top with parmesan cheese and parsley, if desired.
  5. Serve with marinara sauce for dipping.
